Purpose. To analyze the development strategy of the municipal system of general education of the Berezovsky urban district' and develop proposals for its improvement. Methods. To conduct the study were used the following methods: description, analysis, synthesis, analysis of official documents, surveys, expert interviews, statistical analysis. The results and usability. The article presents the results of empirical sociological research of the development strategy of the municipal system of the general education of Berezovsky urban district (Sverdlovsk region). In the first stage of the study we examined official documents containing the development strategy of the municipal education system, which was analyzed by the algorithm developed by the authors. Strategy analysis revealed the strengths and weaknesses of the strategy of development of a municipal education system of Berezovsky urban district. At the second stage of the study was conducted a questionnaire of 42 experts which revealed the most relevant from the point of view of experts, the areas of work in general education: work with teaching and managerial personnel and the introduction and implementation of the federal state educational standards. In the third phase was conducted interviews with 12 experts and experts provided assessments the problems of the municipal education system and made proposals for their solution: the aging of teaching staff, the problem of training of heads of educational institutions, inefficient use of funds allocated to the outdated equipment. Received data can be used by, the education authorities and local governments for the development and improvement of strategy of development of the municipal system of the general education. Scientific novelty. Based on the study made by the author: developed an algorithm for the analysis of the development strategy of the municipal general education system; developed a technique of social sociological examination of the municipal development strategy of the general education system; provided new empirical data characterizing the development strategy of the municipal general education of Berezovsky urban district.
