Purpose. To describe the features of the Ukrainian big cities participation in inter-state relations (as of 01.07.2014). Methods. On the basis of the proposed study methodological apparatus author has been proved functions of urban interstate typing to identify the geographical features of their appearance in the big cities of Ukraine. Results. Author allocated cities’ types and characteristics and disclosed role and significance of the Ukrainian large cities in its international relations, particularly shown their participation in paradiplomatic relations. Scientific novelty. This study of interstate big Ukrainian cities’ functions is the first in the Ukrainian cities’ geography.

Purpose. Study of contemporary international features of one of the leading cities in Ukraine Dnipropetrovsk to identify their spatial features. Methods. On the basis of the proposed methodological apparatus of the study was justified use of appropriate indicators for the quantitative measurement of various international functions of the city in modern Ukrainian reality. Results. Identified features of the role and importance of Dnepropetrovsk in international relations of Ukraine, as well as analyzed the reasons that contributed to the formation of relevant features of the city participation in the processes of globalization. Scientific novelty. This study of international functions of Dnepropetrovsk is a pioneer in economic geography and regional economics.
